More than 200 academic and support staff who have made a long-standing

early next month at Australian Learning and Teaching Council Citation

reveal the commitment to improving the student experience with the 2008
recipients sharing new and innovative activities.
"Recipients are drawn from a broad range of disciplines and can be found
working throughout the organisation as Citations recognise the work of
everyone with a role in enhancing student learning", he noted.

Ron Oliver writes:
As part of my Carrick Fellowship Project, I have been exploring the notions
of sharing and reuse of technology-supported learning activities. In the
process I have developed a publicly accessible online database into which
teachers can add examples of technology-supported teaching activities to
share with others.
I am now looking to grow the number of activities within the database. To
that end I am inviting higher education teachers who wish to share examples
of their teaching to consider contributing to the database.
http://aragorn.scca.ecu.edu.au/tsldb/
To encourage participation we are offering 3 prizes of $1000 each.
The prizes will be awarded to the owners of the 3 activities in the TSLDB
(on the 31 August) that are judged by a panel of experts to be the most
innovative, effective and reusable.
Hopefully we can populate the database with interesting and innovative
teaching ideas that use technology in ways that value-add and enhance
learning. As more and more activities are entered into the database, I plan
to continue working with teachers to explore factors that influence their
sharing and reuse of teaching and learning activities and ideas.
If you use technology in your teaching in ways that value-add and enhance
learning, you may like to view the database and consider whether you have
some activities that will make useful contributions.
As well, if you know of colleagues who might be interested in the database,
it would be appreciated if you could pass this message on.
Regards
Ron Oliver

Khon Kaen, Thailand is a wonderful place to visit in November. In November
the Loi Krathong Festival takes place. This festival is celebrated on the
proper full-moon night, small lotus-shaped baskets or boats(Krathongs) made
of banana leaves containing flowers, incense, candles and a coin are floated
on Thai rivers, lakes and canals. By moonlight people light their candles
and incense and make a wish before launching their Krathongs. Indeed, it is
the time to be joyful and happy as the sufferings are floated away. This
peculiarly Thai festival probably originated in Sukhothai and is best
celebrated in the north. A spectacular sight to see.
I look forward to seeing you in Khon Kaen, Thailand.
