2) News from HERDSA ACT Chapter

"The ACT HERDSA Chapter was restarted in August last year with a
visit by the president of HERDSA (now also the president of ICED),
Shelda Debowski.

At the end of November CEDAM, at the ANU, hosted the chapter
with 2 Carrick speakers and 2 HERDSA Conference speakers. We had
26 colleagues present including Kathryn Sutherland, Co-Convener
Of the HERDSA conference in New Zealand, who showed us the latest video of
Rotorua and talked about the conference. At the end of the seminar we had
lots of drinks and also got ideas about what the chapter wanted to do in
2008, they include:

-Establishing potential research/project alliances/partnerships
-Creating a Carrick Interest Group - investigating alliances for
research/submissions
-Bringing together current and potential members interested in
preparing a fellowship portfolio.

My colleagues, Jackie Walkington, and Peter Donnan, and I visited
ADFA in late February to gauge their interest in the ideas above.
We were well received by 3 interested colleagues and have an
event planned for the end of March this year. (See below)

We are excited by the possibility of making a start on the
teaching portfolios for HERDSA fellowships and in early 2009
possibly welcoming Dieter Schonwetter to Canberra. I have
taken the liberty of including the reference to one of his
articles dealing with Teaching philosophy statements and the
use of reflective practice.

Schönwetter, D. J., Sokal, L., Friesen, M., and Taylor, K. L.
(2002) Teaching philosophies reconsidered: A conceptual model
for the development and evaluation of teaching philosophy
statements. The International Journal of Academic Development.
7, 2. Taylor and Francis.

Seminar info
‘Forget that Uni stuff: You’re in the workplace now!’

You are invited to:
Take time to think away from the demands of the ‘office’.
Share your experience, successes and frustrations about workplace
learning. Reflect on practice with an aim to improving
what you do. Seek potential project or research partners.

Following a very short presentation to set the context (say 5 mins),
attendees will be invited to share their workplace learning
‘stories’ in forum style (say 15 more mins) before spending more
time (as long as you like) chatting over drinks and nibblies in
a collegial and convivial environment”. (Seminar to be held on 25
March at University of Canberra)
