b) ascilite 2009: "Same Places, Different Spaces"

Jointly hosted by The University of Auckland and Auckland University of
Technology, the 26th annual ascilite conference will be held at The
University of Auckland, Owen Glenn Building. Information including critical
dates, 'Call for Proposals' and submission guidelines have now been posted
on the Website.
The My Review proposal submission system opens at the end of June.
Deadline for paper, workshop, symposia and interactive session proposals
close: 14 August 2009

c) Abstracts are now invited for the 2010 Forum: Quantitative Analysis of
Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in Business, Economics and
Commerce Disciplines.
The Forum will be held on Friday February 12th 2010. Abstracts are due on
July 30th 2009. I will send a reminder email closer to these dates.
Please note that, next year, a parallel forum will be held on Thursday 11th
February, 2010 entitled: Measuring the Student Experience. This half-day
forum will feature quantitative papers on the Course Experience
Questionnaire and institutional teaching evaluation surveys/teaching quality
instruments (TQIs).
We invite papers for both forums. Please indicate which forum you wish to
present at.
The quantitative forum in commerce disciplines is a joint initiative of the
Teaching and Learning Unit (TLU) and the Department of Economics in the
Faculty of Economics and Commerce at the University of Melbourne. It is now
in its fifth year and regularly attracts between 80 and 100 participants
from around 38 universities in the Australasian region. Presenters have
their accommodation and airfare paid, and accepted papers are published in
the refereed Forum proceedings.

It is fully downloadable from this site either as individual chapters or as
the whole book in pdf form.
This online book describes a study, funded by Australian Learning and
Teaching Council (ALTC),that involved teachers in the Faculty of Education
at the University of Wollongong implementing innovative teaching approaches
to support mobile learning. Palm Smartphone and Apple iPod technologies were
used by undergraduate and postgraduate students to assist their learning
across a range of curriculum areas.
The book outlines authentic activities, assessment strategies, and
professional learning approaches that teachers across the higher education
sector can easily adapt and implement within their own discipline areas.

7 Death by e-Learning
THE increasing use of sophisticated electronic learning systems will soon
make university attendance for students unnecessary. Today, if students miss
lectures they can download them from their e-learning module on to their
home computer or mobile phone.
