<div>I applied and was accepted to the LL.M. program for International and European Law at the Université Jean Moulin (UJM) in Lyon, France. The one-year program is taught entirely in English. I would have started the program this January, but I was unable
to secure financing. </div>

<div>American students who want to earn an advanced degree from a foreign university are not eligible for student loans from U.S. banks or the U.S. government if the foreign university is not affiliated with a U.S. school. This is what I was told by representatives
of those lending institutions. When a foreign university is affiliated, a U.S. student is eligible for financing – the lending institution sends the money to the U.S. affiliate, who then forwards the funds to the foreign university. UJM is not affiliated with
an American university. </div>

<div>I chose the UJM program not only because it focused on an area of law that was of interest to me, but because it was half the price of any U.S. LL.M. program. Currently the program is €10,000, which is roughly U.S. $13,900 as of today, November 1, 2010.
Besides, living in France for one year would be an opportunity of a lifetime. </div>

<div>Throughout my life, I have created options and opportunities for myself, knowing that some doors open and some doors stay closed. Although this opportunity did not come to fruition, I am excited to start a new chapter in my life – joining the ranks of
the employed! </div>
