This Friday morning, I spoke to someone from the office of the
Senate Select Committee on Community Standards about the proposed
meeting in Melbourne.
Apparently the meeting was cancelled due to lack of response and
then, after it was announced in The Age, there were many inquiries.
There is likely to be a meeting in Melbourne, but there are no
definite plans yet.
A meeting is planned for the coming Thursday October 12 in Sydney:
9 AM Commonwealth Parliamentary Offices
11th Floor 70 Phillip St Sydney.
The Senate Committee office is on 06 277 3545 or fax 06 277 5809.
Senate meetings and other activities are available at:

I hope to have my submission converted to HTML and on my WWW site in
the next few days. The office was most helpful about this, since
guidelines state that submissions should not be published without
permission, that any such publication would render them devoid of
parliamentary privilege (which I don't need in this case) and that
unauthorised publication is potentially a contempt of Parliament.
Within ten minutes of my inquiry, I was told that it would be fine
to make my submission available via the World Wide Web.
This is an excellent opportunity to help Parliamentarians learn
about the Internet and to say what we think about the potential
regulation of it. It is not too late to make submissions, and I
hope that people will mail or fax submissions ASAP.
