Roger Clarke wrote in response to a posting from Robert Hart (referring to
the availability of info regarding EdNA):

......"I've checked at edna and deet sites and can't see anything new there.
 Does
this mean I'm being thick again, or that they haven't put up their
information paper / request for submissions on the net???"........

The latest info on EdNA to be posted on the Web is an issues paper that was
used as the basis of formal discussions with a wide range of interested
parties. These discussions took place during July and August. I informed
Linkers, and others, of the availability of this paper when it was posted
two or three weeks ago.

The paper is available at http://www.deet.gov.au/edna/netissu/037.htm and
any comments can be sent to the email address entf@deet.gov.au - anything
sent to that address is automatically forwarded to all members of the EdNA
Task Force in DEET - this address has been available and advertised, along
with other EdNA information, on the DEET Web server for several months
(refer http://www.deet.gov.au).

Also available, at http://www.deet.gov.au/edna/logo/edna.htm is a copy of an
information paper that was sent to all educational institutions. It
contains contact details as follows:

Education Networking Task Force
Location 413
Department of Employment,
Education and Training
16-18 Mort Street
CANBERRA ACT 2600
Facsimile: (06) 240 8553
E-mail: entf@deet.gov.au

The next step, which is well underway, is the development of a business
requirements paper based on the outcomes of the discussions mentioned above
and on input/comment that has been received regarding the issues paper.
This is shortly to be considered by members of the Reference Group (the
makeup of this group is described in para 7 of the issues paper) and it will
then go from them to the relevant state/territory ministers.

The intention is that once the business requirements paper has been agreed
it will be made public and a detailed specification will be developed from
it and any other comments received. It is intended that the specification
will also be made public before it is finalised and formally released to
seek industry proposals.

Roger also wrote:

....."Robert, can you encourage DEET to set it up properly? Just threaten
them
that Tom Worthington or Tony Barry will arrive on a white horse shortly if
they don't!"......

I would appreciate any comments on how we can improve the process. Also,
please don't hesitate to send comments and suggestions to the email adress
mentioned previously (this is better than sending them to individuals or
only making them available on Link as you can be sure all of us in DEET that
are involved in EdNA will then get to see them) - Linkers don't appear to
have been making a lot of use this process so far.

Regards Graham A.
