The heart of the Internet is the people who use it and the people who keep
making it happen. The people who drive it, who tell others about it, who
help Governments understand it. The people who are passionate about what the
'Net can do for people, for Australia and for the world.

The Internet Society of Australia (ISOC-AU) is forming so that Australians
interested in the Internet will have a forum to exchange ideas, a platform
to speak from, and an effective way to participate in and directly support
the continued development of the Internet. The Society is a chapter of the
Internet Society (ISOC), a global organisation dedicated to supporting,
promoting and building the Internet.
Internet users are warmly invited to attend the Society's Inaugural General
Meeting at 1.30pm on 27 November 1996 in Room C131 of the UTS Haymarket
Campus, on Quay Street near Darling Harbour. The meeting will be a chance
for people to meet others, to join the Society, to help elect the Board of
Directors and to be a part of discussions which will set some of the
Society's major directions. Facilities will be provided to allow remote
users to take part in the meeting via the Internet - full details will be
posted on the Society's Web pages at http://www.isoc-au.org.au and in
appropriate newsgroups. The Web pages are also the place to find formal
documents such as the Rules of the Society.
Membership of ISOC-AU costs $75 and includes full general membership of
ISOC, the global parent body of this Australian chapter. If you are already
a member of ISOC, your ISOC-AU membership will be extended on a pro-rata
basis. All persons joining ISOC-AU before the start of the Inaugural General
Meeting will be considered Founding Members.
Students can join for only $55. Student members have full membership status
with the Internet Society of Australia including voting rights, but do not
have voting rights in ISOC, the parent body.
If you'd like to join the Internet Society of Australia, fill out the
attached form and mail it with the appropriate payment to:
