I would also think it is a reflection on the stability of Unix.  A well
managed Unix system will continue to run for many years.  With NT,
consumers are locked into a cycle of hardware/software upgrades necessary
to fix those pesky bugs/security problems.  I think this would
artificially inflate those sales figures IMHO.
