re: NCs may not happen overnight, but they will happen.
Gee, why am I getting a sense of deja vu all over again? [attribution:
Yogi Berra, known for his malapropisms] Can we say: terminal with a GUI
interface?
We used this sort of strategy in a cut down version with a LAN in our
library computer area. Since the students fussed with the machines all
day we rebooted every morning to a common profile across the LAN. Was a
terrific way to make new resources available to all public machines.
One other query raised obliquely by BRDs posting about his laptop
experience. What in the heck does one use to backup a 3 to 5 gig
harddisk? I don't think my little 100meg Zip drive will do the job. Is
this addition of diskspace a danger in disguise and would the small
business person or home user be better off with a more distributed storage
design?
Or does it mean that the reduced cost in individual disks just gets
transfered to the expense of a tape backup system that also introduces
another potential point of failure and something to fiddle with?
