SIGN OF THE TIMES
British Telecom says that, for the first time, the volume of its data traffic
has exceeded voice traffic. BT, which today announced an 18% profit
surge to $934 million for the second quarter, is spending $3.3 billion a year
to ensure its network can handle Internet demand. It also has a $10 billion
venture with AT&T to offer voice, data, and Internet services to companies
around the world via its Concert network. See
