Information management for the future
Anyone faced with the challenge of creating and managing information should
plan to attend Information Online and On Disc 99, The Ninth Australasian
Conference and Exhibition, from 19-21 January, 1999 at the Sydney
Convention and Exhibition Centre. Organised by the Information Science
Section of the Australian Library and Information Association, the
conference and exhibition has broad appeal for information professionals
from industry, education, government, law, health and the corporate sector.
The program features more than 50 Australian and international speakers
including keynote speakers from the United Kingdom and the United States of
America. Topics covered in conference streams include:

… strategic alliances
… knowledge management
… document delivery
… gateway interfaces
… education
… business
… disk technology
… competitive intelligence
… social and cultural impacts
… academic libraries

A new conference stream on Globalisation and Electronic Communities will
include speakers from the Office of Information Technology NSW, Macquarie
University Library and the Department of Urban Services, ACT Government.
An Internet Lounge will be open from 8.00am to 6.00pm each day, featuring
Celebrity Surfers (Tony Barry, Kerry Webb, Richard Chirgwin, Sandra Davey,
et al ) at midday and Hints & Tips sessions including: RTF to HTML; Cookies
and Shopping Carts; Finding People; Managing Bookmarks; Graphics and
Metadata.
More than 100 companies are participating in the exhibition, the largest of
its kind in the southern hemisphere, which runs concurrently with the
conference.
