It is, however, worth noting that the dangers of providing old Uncle Tom
Cobbley and all with your SSN are being touted in popular US mags -
together with stories about the growing number of instances of
appropriation of identity. Get hold of someone's SSN and you can claim to
be them when you apply for credit cards, drivers licenses etc etc, and provide
your details to arresting officers. For the poor unfortunate "real"
person, who then gets blacklisted by credit reference agencies, acquires a
criminal record etc, it is a nightmare.
