I think that those (Telstra in this case) offering basic services on the
Internet need to understand that they can't make decisions in isolation
like that. They simply don't own the Internet and their policies need to
fit in with other uses.

When buying stuff over the Internet, a lot of vendors will send out email
containing important information as a part of the transaction, such as
verification or registration codes for software etc. The Easymail
limitations would stuff that system up completely and make I-commerce
unworkable for those people.

I can't believe how uninformed that decision is, if it's true.
