CNN online has a 'front page' story on all this and the FBI honing in on the
culprits, supposedly in California and Oregon.
Several stories:
the FBI story:

webhacking underscores need for monitoring:
http://cnn.com/2000/TECH/computing/02/10/internet.monitoring.reut/ [this
one bothers me!!]
net execs to meet with Clinton:
http://cnn.com/cnnfn/2000/02/11/technology/wires/internet_clinton_wg/
a chat with Avi Rubin about security and DoS:
http://cnn.com/chat/transcripts/2000/2/rubin/
What a DoS means and how it works: there is a javascript there, but it
failed on my machine.
