THE LAST PUSH
Once the hot company on the Internet, push pioneer PointCast told subscribers
this week it was sending out the final broadcast information over the
PointCast
Network. Push technology was seen only a couple of years ago as one of the
first
"killer apps" on the Net, but the bloom went off the rose, sell-out talks
for a
rumoured $400 million came to naught, its IPO was cancelled, various merger
and
partner attempts failed, until finally it was sold to venture capital firm
Idealab last May for about $10 million. PointCast is now integrated into
Launchpad Technologies which sells eWallet software for online shopping.
