I have to add that another disincentive is the pathetic non-availability
of high bandwidth in the rural regions.
There could be an opportunity for high income telecommuters to enjoy a
rural lifestyle if they could get access to acceptable bandwidth; this
would have a spinoff in increased employment in the local service
industries. I think this is compounded by the lack of IT ability in most
local government organisations and most LG authorities don't have a clue
about what is needed to encourage telecommuters to their regions, they
just don't pay the wages to attract knowledgable staff; I know, I was
made redundant to a restructure that down priced my job by $10K.
As an example, there is currently no Big Pond Direct PoP in Wagga Wagga, a
city of nearly 60K, likewise Shepparton.

Howard.
