Pardon?
Unix, the core of IBM mainframes???????
IBM mainframes were designed to handle transactions, as in OLTP - On-Line
Transaction Processor, two phase commits, CICS, etc.
This is a fundamentally different computing paradigm from that of Unix,
which is a character stream.
IBM mainframes will run Unix, but it is not the "the core of IBM
mainframes". The statement "Nearly all of IBM's software and hardware is
being retooled for Linux." is also sus. IBM is embracing Linux, but it
certainly isn't re-tooling its H/W and S/W.
And I'm not speaking for IBM here and I don't have any special knowledge in
this area, it's just stating the bleed'n obvious.
