When the the gas company in Canberra got an automated system for their phones,
for a short while the message went something like this (remember that these
recordings are spoken slowly and clearly):
"Hello, this is AGC, your friendly gas company. We have installed an automated
telephone system to help you get to the person you need more quickly.
If you wish to pay your bill by credit card, please press the number 1.
For other billing enquiries, please press the number 2
If you would like gas connected to your home, please press the number 3
For other product enquiries, please press the number 4.
If you would like to contact our Service Department, please press the number 5.
If you would like to contact the Corporate Section, please press the number 6.
If you would like to contact our Press Officer, please press the number 7.
For general enquiries, please press the number 8.
If you have a gas emergency, please press the number 9...."
