Govt orders review of IT outsourcing

The Federal Government has ordered an independent review of its
information technology outsourcing project.

The review follows a report by the Auditor-General showing a cost
blow out, lower than expected savings and delays in carrying out the
process.

The managing director of the Australian Stock Exchange, Richard Humphry,
will conduct the review reporting to a group of senior federal public servants.

Finance Minister John Fahey says the government remains committed
to the IT outsourcing project, but will put the next round of tenders on hold
until Mr Humphry finishes the review.
