Viewers should pay for Online, says ABC chief

A
ÈBC's managing director Jonathan Shier has told managers that viewers
should pay for some
content and that the national broadcaster should take advertising on
the Internet website ABC
Online, The Australian newspaper said today.
The paper said Mr Shier told a meeting of executive producers and
television heads last week that
Mr Shier's counterpart at the BBC, Greg Dyke, was considering putting
advertising on the main
BBC website in addition to its commercial site.
The Australian said ABC Online was a potential goldmine, attracting up
to 6.5 million hits a day.
Sources told the newspaper Mr Shier was considering the possibility of
making the public pay for some of ABC content in the
future.
So, isn't this called double dipping? Don't we already PAY for the content?
