Your previously good line is probably now being multiplexed with someone in
the street. When most homes started getting a second and third line,
Telstra ran out of copper pairs in some places and began using smart devices
at the expense of your bandwidth. The only way you can win that argument is
to subscribe to Big Pond, which apparently advertises 56K access, then
complain that they are not delivering. After they fix your line, go back to
your ISP. :-^)
