UK UNIVERSITIES PLAN ONLINE GLOBAL COLLEGE
British universities are creating a global online college that
will profit by helping corporate universities and others develop
and offer online courses. The e-University (eU) aims to tap the
$70 billion global online education market by leveraging the
reputable brands of the British universities. The virtual
college will sell content to other online universities, and
address the weaknesses of online education by focusing on
individual attention and ensuring that students finish courses.
The Higher Education Funding Council, which is developing eU,
says the online school will begin offering courses for
postgraduates, corporate universities, companies, and governments
in 2001 or 2002. (Financial Times, 10 October 2000)
