My Netscape, Outlook have the option to inore thread.  I use this rather
frequently when a topic goes beyond what I feel is relevant for my
limited knowledge.  Though not all Link emails thread well it is simple
to add the ignore to offshoots.

Not knowing your mail client I cannot comment further, but that solution
solves noise problems within my mail clients.
