I don't know what this runs on, but have a look at Seattle's site
<http://www.ci.seattle.wa.us/>, population 596,292. I mention the latter as
there are few local government areas of that size in Australia. But it
demonstrates what can be done, even if it were to be scaled down. With
regional seats likely to receive many a pork barrel between now and the
next elections, I'm sure the good Senator Alston would provide a receptive
ear to councils who wish to smarten up their information processes,
including the use of the Internet.
