INDIAN POSTAL SERVICE DELIVERS E-MAIL
The Indian postal service has launched an experimental initiative that
enables e-mail users to send messages to non-wired citizens in five
southern and western Indian states and have those messages delivered in
hard copy by postal workers. Only 2% of India's population has access to
PCs. Under the new scheme post offices will be equipped with computers and
online access -- more than 200 e-post centers have already been set up,
linked to more than 5,000 distribution centers. (BBC News 13 Aug 2001)
