APPC LAUNCH SPEECH

"The APPC is an non-profit political lobby organisation, dedicated to
enabling ALL Australians to 'Have Your Say' in the formation of new federal
government policies." said Leigh Wilmington, Founder of the APPC, to a
small gathering at the launch of the APPC just outside of Canberra.

"Many would say that the only opportunity we, the public of Australia, have
of having a say is every three years or so, when we vote for one of the
political parties of the day, with its mixture of good and bad policies."
said Mr Wilmington. Quoting members of an Internet mailing list, the
'Link' list, "we're starting to see a worrying trend with the government
blatantly ignoring the advice of its best & brightest". "For many people,
that's not good enough any more - we want a say in our own future."

The APPC utilises some of the basic tools of the Internet to enable all
Australians to exchange ideas regarding a better way to run the country,
without the usual derogatory barrage that would result from someone
expressing a different point of view. "Australia could benefit greatly
from a consensus based political decision process, instead of the usual
destructive confrontational factionalism that dominates the Australian
political environment."
