I can personally attest to this. When I was younger with long hair
and a bohemian look I voted in Goulburn, which was then a National
Party seat. I refused all voting materials on the way in and a party
staffer called out "I suppose you're voting for the Pot Party then".
An official heard and approached the person, the police were called,
and the person found themselves in front of the magistrate on Monday.

The US just seems to want to throw technology, rather than proper
resourcing, at the problem of integrity and accuracy.
The Australian system appears to be near optimal, although we obviously
need to tighten up voter enrolment. I'm all for stamping people's
as they vote, as this forces the rorters into postal voting.
