I find the spin on this a bit surprising. The real problem is one of
communications between Microsoft and their customers.
Ironically, for most other networks using MAPS is a PR win.
It stops incomming spam and puts the pressure on other
ISPs not to host spammers and puts pressure on enterprises
not to have open mail relays.
The article also abounds with inaccuracies, mainly due to people's
paranoia where Microsoft is concerned. Microsoft isn't restricting
people's speech, Microsoft doesn't choose how mail gets sent to or not,
nor is MS "pocketing" unsent e-mail. If Peacefire want to get e-mail
from everyone then they should change to an ISP that isn't listed in
MAPS -- that's the whole point of MAPS.
