I've run Majordomo, Mailman, Smartlist, and EZMLM lists. Of these,
EZMLM is the least work - you never have to deal with bounce messages,
ever, and if you've got a shell account on the server and like doing
things from a command line administration is easy. But it has no web
interface (I haven't used EZweb), only works with qmail as an MTA, and
is not (quite) free software... Mailman works pretty well, and has a
good web interface -- it's maybe the best general purpose solution.
Smartlist is now dated. I haven't used Majordomo with any of the
web interfaces available.
