Tripped over this in a posting on Declan McCullagh's list, but he got it
from free-market.net

Tasmanians give DNA testing the nod
----------
In a new poll, more than 77% of residents of the Australian state
of Tasmania voiced support for mass DNA screenings as a tool for
fighting crime. A new law gives police wide latitude to collect
    samples from suspects. (01/29/01)

Do we have any padvocates in Tassie?

[We should all be polite, and not make remarks like
'It's alright for Tasmanians. Their DNA's all the same'
You've got to laugh, or you'd cry ...]
