ICANN SELLS THE FARM
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, ICAN,
today announced a deal in which Verisign will surrender control
over "org" and "net" in exchange for keeping rights to manage
"com" (where the money is). Verisign was originally
Network Solutions which ran the whole domain name structure until
ICANN was created. Verisign will invest $200 million in an
endowment to offset expenses and make participation affordable
  to non-profit organisations. See
