Visit aus.dvd and you'll hear all about these things.  Some are actually
VCDs from videos taken by hand, complete with heads at the bottom of the
screen.  Others are "silvers" - pirate copies. An interesting discovery in
that newsgroup (for me) was that Macrovision removal is now illegal, so
those who bought unlocked players did well.

That may be one reason why DVDs in NZ are ridiculously expensive compared to
Australia.
