The real benefit for me is that under OX S, I can use either a
command line interface or GUI element as the problem dictates. I can
choose the mechanism that gives me the greatest productivity. That,
to me, gives me the best of both worlds. As for automation, I can
automate the interface all I want using the applescript language. I'm
all for choice - it should be up to the user to chose their style of
interaction and not be forced into one style or other because of the
wishes of a developer. As a developer myself, I always try to provide
choices for the user.
