Don't confuse WAP with the Internet. WAP is/was a braindead technology
hyped by various vendors and Market Research companies with even less
understanding of the real world than an Australian politician.

The stuff coming down the line will have higher data rates and much
improved user interfaces. All we are waiting for are the devices, the
networks and the applications. In other words, there is still some way to
go, but we will get there. It won't happen overnight but it will happen.

IMHO, the most useful new product will be the GPRS or 3G PC card that slips
into a notebook PC or PDA.

There is still a degree of hype in current press reports, but have a look
at:

Get ready for a faster wireless Web. The latest cellular phones and modems
on display here at Comdex will be capable of data speeds faster than
today's wired 56-kbps hookups--when they're used on next-generation
wireless networks, which are soon to roll out.
