US online strategist visits RMIT
Steven Clift, an online strategist focused on improving democracy and community participation through the use of the Internet, is making a special visit to Melbourne next week to speak at a lunchtime public lecture at RMIT University.
Visiting from Minnesota in the US, Mr Clift will give an address on the future of electronic democracy and implications for Australia at 12.30pm at RMIT University's Council Chamber.
Mr Clift is Board Chair of Minnesota E-Democracy, a non-profit organisation which created the world's first election-oriented web site in 1994 and hosts ongoing citizen discussions on state and community affairs.
A frequent media commentator, he shares information, news and advice to over 2,200 subscribers via his Democracies Online Newswire service as well as through his public presentations in 17 countries over the last four years.
As part of Democracies Online, Mr Clift recently launched the Parliaments Online Forum, which networks online leaders from parliaments and legislators around the world.
