MICROSOFT RIVALS OBJECT TO CLASS-ACTION SETTLEMENT
The head of the Computer and Communications Industry Association has
written a letter to U.S. District Court J. Frederick Motz urging him to
reject a proposed $1-billion settlement of more than 100 class-action suits
against Microsoft. The settlement would "do nothing to deter future
anticompetitive conduct by Microsoft and would inflict great harm upon the
technology markets affected by such conduct," said CCIA president Ed Black.
Microsoft had proposed in the settlement to provide $1 billion worth of
software and hardware to more than 14,000 disadvantaged schools. Judge Motz
is scheduled to hear testimony on the settlement today. (Wall Street
