BAN ON INTERNET TAXATION TO EXPIRE NEXT WEEK
The U.S. Congress has declined to extend a ban on Internet taxes -- and some
lawmakers are worrying that state and local governments will be overzealous
in using the Internet to raise operating revenues. Oregon Senator Ron Wyden,
a Democrat, says: "Starting Monday, there's an opportunity for considerable
economic mischief," and Representative Christopher Cox, a California
Republican, says he fears "a new onslaught of taxes on the consumer, or on
