[LINK] What do we want from "Broadband"

Rachel has hit the nail on the head...though I notice the word lend
rather than invest but I think give would be a safer word.

The association of content with broadband is part of Labour's knowledge
nation and I agree the suggestion that the discussion about content is
dated and not a compelling reason to deliver high speed cable into every
home. 

I love the idea of using datacasting to distribute popular content and I
(and no doubt others) suggested it a few years ago, here on Link. We've
also already discussed the issue of infrastructure as opposed to the
last mile bandwidth capacity. In a personal effort to bring some sense
to this discussion I helped the ACS prepare a submission to NOIE see

the productivity's inquiry into broadcasting at
http://www.ramin.com.au/marg/pcsub.html

Rather than "broadband", what we need is:
a)always on
b)infrastructure (mirroring, backbones, international links)
c)appropriate balance of pricing/government investment to meet needs in
a sustainable way.
