Official websites easy targets for
                    hackers: report

                    By XAVIER LA CANNA
                    Sunday 30 September 2001

An audit of 10 Federal Government websites has found most
contained serious security holes and were at risk from
hackers.

The $280,000 review has forced the closure of part of
the Australian
Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency's site,
after it was
found classified security documents were accessible via
the Internet.

"It said some contractors were not told how secure sites needed to be,
and key departmental staff were sometimes unaware of
security
measures put in place when work was outsourced."

"
A spokesman for Finance Minister John Fahey said the
report had
nothing to do with the IT outsourcing decision."

Then they would, wouldn't they?
