ANTIPLAGIARISM SITES WITH QUESTIONABLE TIES TO PAPER MILLS
Louis Bloomfield, a physics professor at the University of
Virginia, is warning professors about a link between two
antiplagiarism Web sites and Cyber Breeze Networks, which
operates at least three paper mill sites. Oleksiy Shevchenko,
who runs the two antiplagiarism sites PlagiServe.com and
EduTie.com, was listed until very recently as the "administrative
contact" for Cyber Breeze. Bloomfield's concern is that the
antiplagiarism sites, which examine submitted papers to look
for plagiarism, are a front for the paper mills, which sell papers
online to college students. Bloomfield had been recommending the
antiplagiarism sites until he learned of the possible conflict
of interest. Shevchenko has denied any illicit activity, saying
that he was involved in the development of the paper mill sites
but has since changed his attention to building "the ultimate
source to find plagiarism."
