OSX is based on BSD. Also, because it's a different architecture any
linux worms like slapper won't affect it as it looks for specific OS versions
and hardware platforms. Not to say a cross platform worm is not a big
possibility.

I have a bit of code called "sunkiller". You give it an IP address of a
Sun box and watch it grind to a halt. I think later SunOS versions
are protected. I reported the bug to Sun in 1997 along with some
other people....

It's not the hardware. It is getting the vendors to write the drivers.
Mostly there is support for the Mac these days.
