Linkers who have been following the impact of pairgain systems on bandwidth
could do worse than download the CEPU submission to the Senate inquiry into
the telecommunications network:
http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/committee/ecita_ctte/tele_network/submissions/s
ub96.doc

(This is the document which triggered the weekend's stories about waterproof
gel degrading the copper cables. Want something funny? How about a gap from
August to October for a "scoop"?)

Anyhow: Section B, Part 2 of this submission - "CAN Electronics" - gives a
good outline of the relationship between various active CAN systems and the
availability of 56k and ADSL communications. Of particular interest to me
is the complete outline of different pairgain and multiplexing systems in
use, identifying which ones put a 'cap' on bandwidth available in the
network.
