Internet revenues double
The Sydney Morning Herald
Date: October 24 2002

Despite the dotcom meltdown over the past 18 months, a report
released yesterday claims Australian businesses almost doubled their
online revenues over the period and internet revenue now contributes
6.4 per cent of gross domestic product.
[So: very generally speaking, clicks-and-mortar operations score
better then start-ups (a) because the project is lessy starry-eyed,
and (b) because it's funded by an ongoing business]
Less positive news is that only 21 per cent of businesses are
transacting - buying or selling - online and only 10 per cent of
businesses earn more than 10 per cent of their revenue online.
The report, Built for Business II was commissioned by
internet-enabler Cisco Systems.
