Despite the dotcom meltdown over the past 18 months, a report 
released yesterday claims Australian businesses almost doubled their 
online revenues over the period and internet revenue now contributes 
6.4 per cent of gross domestic product.

[So:  very generally speaking, clicks-and-mortar operations score 
better then start-ups (a) because the project is lessy starry-eyed, 
and (b) because it's funded by an ongoing business]

Less positive news is that only 21 per cent of businesses are 
transacting - buying or selling - online and only 10 per cent of 
businesses earn more than 10 per cent of their revenue online.

The report, Built for Business II was commissioned by 
internet-enabler Cisco Systems.
