[LINK] Cost Breakdown was: Alston's $4m website

Heh. Just noticed the ACA has redeveloped it's website too. Hope they kept
the price down better than DCITA...

A side observation on all this stuff: when the redevelopments are primarily
cosmetic, why do people bother? There seems something a little infantile
about saying "we must change the Website regularly or..." (my answer: people
might get used to finding stuff without crying!). I realise there is any
number of studies proving that to keep your "edge" over your competitors you
have to rework the page etc...but those studies are funded by whom? Tool
vendors? Surprise, surprise...

But government Websites aren't about "maintaining your lead over your
competition". They're about delivering information. Boring is good; simple
is good. The site isn't there just so the minister can prove he exists...

BTW in that sense I'll give the ACA a plus, for getting rid of the useless
opening image that did nothing; but I'll take a minus for damn popup menus,
where you have to move the mouse REALLY slowly or the menu disappears while
you're trying to make a selection...
