I don't agree with the history argument. Did they leave the No War
slogan on the Opera House? It happened, after all. Aren't certain
comments expunged from Hansard and court records?

It's all too easy to say that Tony should wait for a court order. I've
been through the hassle of a legal threat and Tony has better things to
do than to waste time on this particular topic. It isn't as though the
contents could shake the foundations of this nation, so nobody is going
to remember Tony for this decision. Has anyone outside NSW even heard
of this state government department, let alone care how their news
server was loosely set up? Frankly I was half expecting some of the
anticensorship types here to compliment them for not restricting some
newsgroups.

I would take a practical approach particularly if we want to conserve
the NSW taxpayer contributions. They may well expend some money on
lawyers since it isn't coming out of their own pockets. This is exactly
the kind of incident that could lead to someone in ANU deciding that
these mailing lists are more trouble than they are worth. Save the
heroics for a better battle.
