Having read all your comments I found Stil's posting to be completely 
convincing.

I have advised ANU that -

"..to advise SESAHS that the normal way to refute, or comment on an 
item in a mailing list, is to post a comment to the list. Amending the 
archives opens up ANU to suggestions of editorial responsibility for 
content and sets a precedent which is open ended."
