It appears that the suspected behaviour of Windows XP Update of reporting
home to Microsoft might just be true, and that it reports not only on the
hardware in your computer but also the software installed, even the
non-Microsoft software installed.

This article gives some detail, but for the full article you will need to
spend Euro 1.99

Do you want Microsoft to know that you have MYOB or Quicken or Photoshop
or Wordperfect or Opera or Eudora installed on your computer? Probably
not, what business is it of Microsoft's? Absolutely none, but it seems
that they are making it their business and there is nothing you can do
about it if you want your Windows XP system updated.

This, is in addition to the Windows Media Player reporting home on what
you view, play, etc. Microsoft has become the ultimate spyware.

Microsoft - no thanks - I want to quit.
