>Dear BigPond member,

>Good news: BigPond is making life tougher for Spammers.

>Around 60% of all email on BigPond is Spam - and we're committed to stamping
>it out, so that you can enjoy a faster, cleaner email system.
WOW, that means 60% of Telstra's profit for Internet services comes from
charging the consumer receipt of the SPAM!
So lets see, that's, um, 4 billion, minus 40%, take out Ziggy's pay of $1.2
billion, add in the multiple cost of wholesale DSL sold to ISP,s that $9
billion and you are left with.
Wow. A SPAM TAX being collected by the Government, with prejudice.
>In addition to our Spam Filter service, we're launching new anti-spam
>initiatives.
What the one they make you pay $2.50 a month for already?
Lets see, 600,000 email users, at $2.50 a month for a default filter that
affects everyone anyway, that's ..
WOW! A SPAM TAX being collected by the Government, with prejudice!
>The first step is the closure of Port 25 on 13th April 2004. Although some

>Shutting down Port 25 will stop this kind of spamming.
It will? That's funny. I shut down port 25 and I still get SPAM,
admittedly about 60% of the SPAM I receive comes from a Telstra MultiMedia
Service address or a big pond service.
>If you are a business or specialist who uses Port 25 to send legitimate

Let me guess - MORE MONEY! (Ok it's taking a really long time to load the
first link.)
>BigPond Static IP for ADSL

Yep $10 a month, across oh lets say 100,000 DSL users, that's
WOW! A SPAM TAX being collected by the Government, with prejudice!
>BigPond Business Executive

I'm not going to try and calculate this one but lets just say it starts at
$85 a month and goes up to $570 a month and if you were a smart business,
you'd ge the $10 a month service and use NAT. Right HL?
>You can look forward to us making life even harder for spammers in the near
>future. We'll be sure to notify you of further changes as they are
>introduced.
Yeah right. Whilst hey reap in the benefit of the cost being paid by the
consumer, you can be sure they won't be blocking inbound SPAM.
BIG QUESTION:
Now tell me please. If all the people with mail servers online, switch to
Static IP's and pay the $10 a month, exactly HOW does that solve the problem?
I mean I know some people think I'm pretty dumb, and Howard didn't actually
say this in his posting because he's way too smart for all of us, but for
those between not so cluey and those who are really cluey, the question
sits on our minds and a plague of locusts attack Queensland's agricultural
regions.
OK, so SPAMers and Hackers loose port 25. Big deal. Set up a relay trojan
on port 26 and it can initiate the outbound calls to port 25, which then
legitimately get relayed via's Telstra's mail servers because the inbound
mail is coming from users machines.
WOW! SO amazingly brilliant. NOT.
Sorry for not doing all the math. I feel Linkers are smart enough to know
that too many zero's makes reading email way too hard.
