Review of Web access
The Canberra Times
Sunday 25 April 2004
Sydney: The NSW Government will review access to its web sites after
reports that a Sydney man charged with planning a terror attack in
Australia had used the Internet to gather information.
A Sydney newspaper said the suspect allegedly used a NSW Government
web site to get maps, data and satellite images of potential targets.
Faheem Khalid Lodhi, 34, of Punchbowl in Sydney's south-west,
appeared in court this week on seven terrorist-related offences,
accused of undertaking acts in preparation for a terrorist attack on
a major infrastructure facility.
NSW Polic Minister John Watkins said a review of access to such
information would be undertaken. But balancing the right to the
information with security would be difficult.
[Golly, a sensible and measured response. We're not used to
'sensible and measured' from NSW Police Ministers. Well done that
person!]
