Internet Explorer is way too dangerous to use on the Internet.  Use 
Firefox, faster, better, and much, much safer.  If you need to visit 
IE-only sites, use it only for those sites and trusted intranet.  Some 
sites will silently load dozens of malware items in a single visit, 
bypassing IE security settings.

We use Macafee antivirus in-house which also kills spyware.  Apart from 
AdAware we have used SpyBot.  I suggest running a few of these on 
anything suspect.  Download Stinger from Mcafee for the current threats.
